A staple ingredient in Eastern European cuisine, the dill herb is served with dishes ranging from yogurts and soups, to baked potatoes and pickled gherkins. In many cases dill goes well with strong-flavoured cheeses, to counter the cheesy flavour and add a fresh twist. Dill goes well with fish, as well, like Salmon in the Nordic countries. Dill is also often added to salads and butter to make them lighter and more interesting.
